About the Role:
The Junior Accountant reports to the Director of Finance and is responsible for accuracy and completeness of all accounting activities assigned; accounts payable – invoice matching to POs, processing and payment, accounts receivable – invoicing and payment processing, processing of other accounting documents as well as ensuring all work performed adheres to all organizational standards as well as safety regulations and guidelines. This position also provides back-up coverage for the Senior Accountant.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Health & Safety
  • Learn, follow, and comply with all company safe work procedures, safe operating procedures and health & safety policies, and all food safety policies and procedures.
  • Comply with OHS Regulation, Workers Compensation Act and Environment Canada; CFIA and FDA food safety regulations, SQF and other certification specific requirements.
  • Participate and make recommendations in correcting unsafe conditions and the overall health and safety program.
Accounting
  • Uses the accounting system to perform day to day business activities.
  • Review purchase orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review, code and process accounts payable as well as prepare weekly cheque runs.
  • Invoice customers, process invoices and post payments when received.
  • Trace un-processable payments received through banks to enable customer account posting and assist with customer debt collection matters.
  • Prepares periodic financial information to support financial decisions and/or collections.
  • Prepare sundry reconciliations, sundry reports and analyses for all business units.
  • Assist Senior Accountant with preparation of documentation for analysis/review during annual audits.
  • Provide periodic updates summarizing the status of tasks assigned and assure that this information is effectively utilized for continuous improvement.
  • Assists the Senior Accountant and Director of Finance, as directed.
  • Other related duties as assigned by management.
Back-up Responsibilities
  • Perform daily reconciliations, payments and/or invoicing as directed by Senior Accountant.
  • Back fill Senior Accountant duties when they are absent/on vacation.
About You:
  • A minimum of three years accounting experience.
  • Strong confidential attributes.
  • Strong general computer skills and ability to learn new programs.
  • Willing and able to follow specific instructions.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision. Commitment to accuracy and detail oriented.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective communication skills; must speak and write English fluently.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
